Star Trek - Loved it!

Let's see, I can post some more photos of that cute kitty of mine or announce the fact that I just saw Star Trek and it was AWESOME! Okay, the time traveling plot was a bit confusing and I think I might need a timeline to be completely clear but it was AWESOME! It didn't matter at all that I never saw any of the tv series nor the old movies, the plot made sense and the actings were good especially the guy who played Zulu (he played Harold in Harold and Kumar). As an ESL, I totally sympathize with Anton Yelchin's pain with voice-recognition-password ... I especially like the fact that JJ Abrams didn't make the movie out to be totally serious and injected lots of humours. Oh and the special effects were pretty good too, I loved the Rumulan ship.

I have had a lot of fun this past weekend; the weather is finally nice after all the snow we had last week. Replaced my good-old-cheap double mattress with a pocket-coil queen and it is worth every dollar I spent; I never knew a good mattress can make that much difference in sleep quality. Planted some Delilah and herbs in outdoor pots; fingers cross they will grow nicely as this is my first time planting Delilah bulbs.

I also had scored some good-buys; we got two huge bag (approximately 30 lbs) of potting soil from Costco for $10 per bag, paid only $400 for a 12,000 BTU Danby air-conditioner at Rona and bought this sparkly Sydny Bar Tray from Urban Barn - it was $270 but on sale for $109.

Update on new house celebration

OK, maybe celebrating the new house by drinking champagne and having our first dinner at the new house is a bit of a silly idea after all; the house smell quite strongly due to the new paints and it requires some light cleaning and dusting ...

We ended up going back to my place to babecue some nice steaks and topped them with wasabi butter and sesame steak sauce and paired with a bold Shiraz. Today we have the utility company installing water meter and City of Edmonton inspectors checking on some of the works that were done. We will be doing some light cleaning and dusting and measuring windows to order blinds. Hopefully, we will get the colour recommendation from our interior designer soon so we can start painting; otherwise, we will be visiting a few more furniture stores for ideas.

Big Day Today

Hardave is getting the keys to the house as I post this entry; I will be buying a bottle of champagne and some nice take-out-dinner to celebrate tonight - first meal at the new house has to be extra special! Will get some pictures tonight.

Tried giving Tofu a spoon-full of Iams can food last night as a treat, she looked at it, smelled it, licked it, poked it and prodded it, then walked away! I guess she is not crazy about wet cat food ... We had been giving her tiny bits of human food like beef, chicken, cheese, fish and milk ... Maybe she is holding out for the good stuff ... Anyway, I am not too concern about it because dry food are better for her teeth anyway.

We met with the interior designer that our friend recommended over the weekend and she is GREAT! She gave us advice on various things that we would have never thought of ourselves; for example, she told us to buy proper size furniture to fill up the living room and suggested to buy cream leather dinning chairs if we are buying a black leather sofa ... She is going to put a little portfolio for us in terms of colour recommendation. Will update you once we get the portfolio.

More house pictures ...

None of the Beyonce pictures I took turned out, so here are more pictures of the house and Tofu ... I have been sick again, seems like the head cold had returned ... Carpet and Hardwood floor are laid, gas and water were hooked up; the only things left are appliances, mild cleaning and touch ups.

Here is Tofu sleeping with her paws covering her eyes, too cute ...

SuperKitty

Beyonce and trip to Saskatoon were both awesome; pictures and write up later but apparently Tofu was quite bad while I was out of town; she knocked over a glass and fall/jumped off the balcony. Luckily, we only let her out onto the balcony while we are there and she wears a harness with a tie-out, so Hardave was able to rescue the flying-kitty right away. I wish he had taken a picture thou, it would have been a funny scene. Instead, here is slightly disgruntled-just-woke-up shot of Tofu. Notice the droopy branch on the left of the palm in the background? Well, you are looking at the guilty one - plant murderer! The pop cans were there to stop her from jumping from the box-spring onto the dresser; we put changes in the cans so it makes a very loud noise when she knocks them over but so far it hasn't been very affective. Only if Hardave and other geeks can figure out a program that automatically resets the pop-cans once they had been knocked over ...

Beyonce Tonight, Saskatoon Tomorrow

Got a floor ticket tonight to see Beyonce, should be fun; taking tomorrow off and will be driving with my friend Jenni to visit friends in Saskatoon. Although Hardave is looking after Tofu for me, I feel a bit weird about leaving her, it is my first time ...

Next week, we will be booking an interior designer to help us choose paint colours for the accent walls in the new house. Walk-through is on Apr 9, procession is Apr 21, then we will do the paintings ourselves ...

In June, I am going to attend the Canadian e-Learning Conference and will probably book some vacation time before and/or after to visit friends in Vancouver and Victoria, more updates to come.
